I’ve admitted it before, I’ll admit it again: I tend to be a workaholic.
And no, it’s not something I’m proud of.
One time I had a key account manager come out to my region from NY, and before her arrival I shared with her a list of local target firms I was trying to get selling agreements with – assuming she would reach out to them during her visit.
After connecting with her by phone the morning she landed in L.A., we agreed that she would meet me at a seminar where I was speaking later that night.
Upon arriving at the seminar I excitedly asked how her visits with our clients and my target firms went.
She matter-of-factly, and somewhat indignantly, replied, “Huh? I got a manicure!”.
Lesson #1: She was not a workaholic.
Lesson #2: Assume nothing.
