In the Spring 2011 issue of I Carry The Bag…the official magazine of wholesaling Art Sobczak has written a great piece on Call Avoidance – by ‘call avoidance’ Art means that part of you that just finds anything else to do other than pick up the phone and
- make your calls to fill your calendar and/or
- dial all the “thank you” calls you need to make and/or
- reach the COI’s that need your love and/or
- schedule time with the elephant prospect that you’ve been meaning to schedule and/or
- simply calling Copytalk and dictate your meeting notes
Who is Art you ask?
For those of you not familiar, he is one of the leading authorities on selling using the telephone and is the author of “Smart Calling-Eliminate the Fear, Failure, and Rejection from Cold Calling” which was awarded Top Sales Book of 2010.

Here’s an email we received regarding this episode:
I recently took the time to listen to some of your podcasts and came across one called Smart Calling. During that call Art named one of the key mistakes as asking for a decision to early.
I now realize that I have become guilty of it. In my previous channel, I could leave a message with my name but without a value statement and get calls back because I had a relationship with the advisors and they knew I was worth meeting with.
Since moving to a new channel and firm, I don’t have the same relationships but was still using the same approach. I have changed my approach since listening to your podcast and have already noticed a difference.
