You may have seen the post that WholesalerBriefcase.com wrote about the Wholesaler Lifetime Achievement Award presented at the recent Sequoia Connect ’10 conference.

As I sat in the audience and listened to each award winner* speak from the dais I couldn’t help but make a list of the attributes that they outlined as being most critical to their success.

FundFire Survey Uncovers Wholesaler Weaknesses and Opportunities

In mid July FundFire ran the results of a survey aimed at understanding “ways managers can improve their chances of being selected for advisors’ portfolios.”

According to the site:

Overall, 141 advisors representing more than 10 firms participated in the 12-question survey. The respondents hailed from wirehouses, regional broker-dealers, independent broker-dealers, registered investment advisors and banks; the majority of respondents were wirehouse advisors.

While this survey was geared towards the mutual fund asset management population, the finding are no less insightful for any wholesaler that calls on financial advisors.

What Are The Five Drivers of Wholesaler Dissatisfaction?

Unique to the profession, wholesalers frequently spend hours upon hours alone. They are driving long distances from Point A to Point B, enduring unending air travel delays, or are holed up in the local Hilton.

And, not at all unique to the profession, during that alone time they have time to think.

Sometimes as they think they become increasingly dissatisfied.

And like listening to a dripping faucet in a rundown Radisson they get obsessed by the noise of their thoughts.
